The Classy Needle shop is now closed. Thank you for your patronage over the years. I miss my customers very dearly. Below are some resources to help keep up your stitching addictions. The other pages of this site will soon show the merchandise I have left to sell. Check back often to see this merchandise.  There will be lots of bargains.  Please contact me by email (jbbalsley@comcast.net) with any questions or orders. Judy Balsley

 FINISHING RESOURCES:

  • JEAN WILSON - 1773 Ocean Village Drive - Fernandina Beach, FL 32034 - 904/277-2180

Pillows only!  Prefers customer to provide fabric and trim.  Very fast and very economical, but very standard finishing.  Call to discuss pick-up and delivery as well as options for finishing.

  • MARIE GALLAGHER - 1547 Bristol Hammock Circle - Kingsland, GA 31548 - 912/552-6226 - twirlette28@yahoo.com

Ornaments, Christmas stockings, 3-D figures and pillows, bell pulls, cumerbunds, director's chairs, frames, glasses cases, signs, soft-finish purses, and just about anything else you want to throw at her.    You can provide your own fabric and trim - or she will find it for you.  Call to discuss pick-up and delivery as well as options for finishing.  Great finisher - but requires lots of follow-up.  Don't be afraid to call or email her regularly.

  • VILLAGE NEEDLEPOINT (owned by Susan Hill) - 4395 Irvington Road - P.O. Box 186 - Irvington, VA 22480 - 804/438-9500

Leather Belts!  Susan uses the same fantastic belt finisher (Bryan Place) I did - and he can't be beat for quality or price.  Remember, belt size is determined by measuring from the center of the belt buckle to the favorite hole of the wearer.  Or, it's 2" more than a man's pant size.  You stitch 4" less than the belt size to allow for the leathering, etc.  But don't forget - Bryan can make key chains out of the left-over belt canvas - so don't waste it.

Susan also has a finisher for "soft finish" belts (with ribbon backs, etc.) and a good rug finisher Susan is also who you should use to finish your belt canvas into flip flops - and to finish your Julia's Needleworks sandal tops with neoprene soles.

Call before mailing to discuss finishing options.

  •  ELIZABETH TURNER NEEDLEPOINT - 131 Kentucky Ave - Lexington, KY 40502 - 859/226-8888

Leather shoes, sandals, slides and purses.  The best quality ever on these pieces.  Specializes in finishing their own designs, but will do others when possible.  Call to discuss finishing options before mailing pieces.

  • J & S FRAME GALLERY - Sadler Road just next to Starbuck's Coffee - Fernandina Beach, FL 32034

Needlepoint framing.  Jill used to work at Harbor Lights - but has just opened her own shop - and she is the best of the best when it comes to framing.

  • There are lots of other finishers out there.  Just "Google" for needlepoint finishing and you'll find many of them.  The ones above are those I have used for you in the past, so I can vouch for their honesty and their work.

GROUPS AND ORGANIZATIONS:

  • ANG - AMERICAN NEEDLEPOINT GUILD:  This group is dedicated to needlepoint - and lots of excellent stitchers are at the local monthly meetings and stitch-ins to offer help for those "newbies" who may need it.  There are also national seminars, correspondence classes, quarterly magazines and much more.  Contact Carolee Zdanis at 904/321-1953 for more information.

  • KNITTING CLUB:  For those of you passionate knitters who want to keep learning something new - or just wnat to hang out with fellow knitters - we've formed a new Knitting Club.  We meet the first Tuesday evening of every month from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.  The meetings are free - and are held at the Atlantic Recreational Center - just across from the entrance to Fort Clinch.  Contact me at jbbalsley@comcast.net for more information.

  • SEW & TELL:  Every Friday from 10-ish to 1-ish.  This is the continuation of the Friday get-togethers we used to have in the shop.  You can bring ANYTHING you're working on.  The attendees do needlepoint, knitting, crochet, beading, spinning, cross-stitch - any handwork that is portable.  They meet at the Fernandina Beach Municipal Golf Course Club House.  Lunch is available there as well,.  The Club House is on Bill Melton Road.  If you're not familiar with its location, the easiest way to find it is to go South on Fletcher approximately 2 miles after Sadler (the round-about).  Turn right on Bill Melton Road.  Contact Ann Holmes at 904/261-6951 for more information.
